MSORMAN Conclusion

This will be my last blog for this subject since we are only required to create at least 6 journals of our learnings with the subject.

Our last day of class will be on the 17th, everyone is busy because we have to submit our papers for this term - best practice implementation proposal for our own company / institution. I personally had a hard time to decide on what best practice to write after learning that there are a lot of standards and best practices from the class.

Nevertheless, I came up with GPS Tracking System Implementation for my paper. Being a player in the competitive fleet operation industry, our company must take advantage of the technologies and apply best strategies available to ensure quality service on a viable cost and still maximizing our profit margins. The most crucial part in the implementation and utilization of the system is the alignment of the company's objectives and employees understanding and cooperation. I learned through my research that there are factors that must be addressed in any standardization and project implementation like management of change within the organization and ultimate customers.

In truth, the challenge in our company will be more on the dealings with the affected employees, the drivers and helpers. But they have been cooperative with the management in the past. I hope that they will continuously support the company's drive to progress.

Attending this class made me more attentive to what's "NEW" in the trade and what's the "LATEST" in technology though I am not an IT person. I can't believe I'm a blogger now,  I really appreciate that I partake in this course.

I just hope that I did my paper right because it will be hard for me to "Repeat" the subject and I don't wish to be left out by my batch mates.

Logistics / Supply Chain Management

As I mentioned in my last blog, I was assigned to research and explain Logistics/Supply Chain Management best practices and standards. I've been in the logistics industry for more than a decade already but I was not paying too much attention as to what are the best practices and standards.

When I start to do my research in the net, I actually don't know where to start but our instructor wanted to answer the questions: What, When, Where, Why, How and How much so I google search each question. I'm finally done with it but there are still more paper works to submit. Wish me luck!

Anyway, Logistics is a channel of Supply Chain Management..."the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements."

So far, I was able to discuss the topic and was a little able to answer my classmates questions. The best practices are benchmarking, barcoding system, rfid, electronic product data code, electronic commerce, electronic data interchange, gps/gprs, total logistics and third party logistics (3pl).

As to standards, there are many standards that a logistics company may adapt but the most common are quality management, environment, health and safety management, 5S or 6S, and business continuity management system.

I won't elaborate on each standard and best practices anymore cause it's now your turn to do your study on whatever subject you would like to learn on. There are lots of information in the net, you just have to filter the logical ones. ;-) till then!

Best Practices & Standards

I'm here again to share my learnings from my MS Organization Management. If you were able to read on my previous blogs, you probably have some insights about the subject.

We were given case studies to analyze how big companies resolved their difficulties and succeeded up to these days. Those resolutions turned out to be "best practices" being used by other companies as a model. But it doesn't stop there, technologies and systems were being perfected and developed continually to fit according to the company's current state and future needs. Managing organization in fact require a lot of logical thinking on how to improve the business process for the good of the company and its stakeholders.

After the case study, we were assigned individual topics on Best Practices and Standards. Some of my classmates already presented their assignment. Admittedly, most of the topics are new to me and the presenters really enlightened me on what the topic is all about. I regret the time that I was absent (last August 6) as I missed some of the topics. But the professor ask each of us to give a copy of our report/research to everyone for our file and future reference.

By far, the topics that I found interesting and beneficial to our Company is the Quality Management & Business Continuity Management System. I feel sorry that our company failed to finish the certification years ago on Quality Management as the process was strenuous and honestly the management was unsuccessful to accomplish the project because it is only for compliance with our customers demand and not a definitive corporate goal to attain. Well, I must see to it that the future undertakings will be handled accordingly.

My topic will be Logistics/Supply Chain Management. Whew! I'm feeling nervous on the outcome. I hope I will be able to present the way our teacher wants...relaxed, story-telling approach but cognizant of the subject matter just like when you are proposing a project to your bosses.

I will surely share the aftermath! Till then!

3rd Session MSORMAN

We've discussed about economic transition from agricultural to industrial to knowledge era. It was very interesting to know how people, technology, knowledge and everything advanced. And through these evolutions, the economy also adapt.

Learning these things made me understand the complexities of life nowadays compared to the way of life when I was younger.

It is indeed a time where people yearn for additional knowledge, innovation, automation and anything that is extraordinary and superior. We are very fortunate to live in this generation. Though I'm sure a lot from my generations were complaining with the fact that we suffered great deal with all the infrastructure development. (With all the traffic jam in Metro Manila, well it's still traffic until now). No cell phones, no internet, no 3D movies. I envy the youth as there are better roads now, transportation and communication is way too fast and it is even easier to travel and learn with all these "globalization stuff". I really cannot imagine what it will be in the next 10 years. Everything changes quickly and equally becomes outdated.

People at present are more conscious about health/vanity, winning and personality development. I believe it is because of the demand. Now, being a specialist with a particular work is inadequate to sell oneself and to be regarded and trusted. People also look on the way you live your life, on how you carry yourself and how you converse. I myself was in this realization that lead me to enrolling myself to a graduate school.

A total success would not come into a possession of an individual or business entity by merely having the capital, resources and labor. As a leader, I must equip myself with adequate knowledge to effectively perform my duties and undertakings. "Knowledge is Power!" ;-)

2nd Session Learnings

The lecture was very interesting last June 25. We tackled about our beliefs and knowledge about Organization and Management. It was to self-assess what we knew about the present practices of organization's top management and how organizations best operate. We were divided into 4 groups and we discussed about the different views we had with the subject matter. Each group has its own opinion and we had a deliberate debate. My sense of reasoning for one will surely be developed with this class since we are obliged to think logically and rationally.

I learned that most of what we believed to be true and right turned out to be different in reality as proved by surveys. Like leadership, being a member of top management and learning through my experiences I realized that I really need to update myself to the best present norm and practices.

I was really feeling guilty when I exerted most of my efforts in maintaining good rapport and business relationship with our customers and suppliers but now it became clear to me that it is of utmost importance for a leader to do such. According to our lecturer, most of the "nitty-gritty" things must be delegated to the rank and file and middle managers. It was a great relief learning this because now I know that I'm "Doing the Right Thing"!

Thanks MS Organization Management! I'm looking forward to attend the next meetings cause I know there is a lot in store for me to learn and to be more motivated.

MSORMAN Session 1

I enrolled myself to a Masteral Course at Asia Pacific College, Master in Information System. It was our first meeting last Saturday and I was nervous and excited at the same time. When I learned that our facilitator and some of my classmates had several masterals degree, I realized that I had made a right decision to pursue my studies and continue learning after this course.

Organization, Management and Administration of Information Systems (MSORMAN) is my class in the morning. Blogging is new to me and this is my first blog account. I never imagined that I will use it until our facilitator required us to have one.

I don't have much to say now but I am sure that this term will be very challenging and interesting. I can reassess my current approach as a President of our Company.
